Shell accounts

We offer 4 types of shell account: standard, developer, hosting and super hosting. All accounts include:

Unix shell account, including:
- Secure shell (SSH) access.
- A mythic-beasts.com email address.
- Powerful email filtering using Exim Filters, Procmail or other Unix utilities.
- Popular Unix email clients, including Pine and Mutt.
- Access to a full range of development tools, including C and C++ compilers, perl, Python, PHP (versions 3.0, 4.4 and 5.2), Ruby and other popular scripting languages. (We can usually install additional libraries, scripting languages and other development tools if you have a special requirement.)
Web, email and DNS hosting for at least two domains
Web hosting includes:
- Full suExec CGI access (and, for very busy sites, we also permit the use of the high-performance FastCGI interface to dynamic content; email us for more information).
- MySQL database.
- Full access to the Apache web logs for your server.
Email hosting includes:
- Unlimited forwarders for names in your domain.
- Up to 10 POP3 / secure POP3 mailboxes, with individual passwords.
- Configuration of email setup using our web interface.
Web interface to your mythic-beasts.com email.
IMAP/SSL access to your mythic-beasts.com email
Authenticated SMTP access, allowing roaming users to use our mail servers to send email.
One dynamic-DNS address in dyn.mythic-beasts.com optionally with aliases in your own domain.

All shell account prices are quoted inclusive of VAT.

Bandwidth allowances apply to the larger of incoming and outgoing bandwidth used in each month, not the total as with some of our competitors. Most users' bandwidth usage will be dominated by outgoing bandwidth from web hosting.

We do not permit the use of IRC "bots" or "bouncers" from our shell accounts.

Notes

The number of hosted domains refers to the number of unique web server / mail server configurations. If you wish to alias [3] one domain to another this does not count as a separate configuration. Within reason, you can have as many aliased domains as you like, subject only to a one-off setup fee. Please see our domains page for details of the domain registration services that we provide.
vcvs is a system we have developed for providing secure, virtually hosted CVS repositories. vcvs allows you to create and manage users who can access your repository, and optionally allows anonymous, read-only CVS access, making it ideal for organising distributed development of both open and closed projects alike. Please see here for more information.
An aliased domain is a domain that behaves identically to another. For example, if yourdomain.co.uk behaves identically to yourdomain.com it is an aliased domain. It does not require a separate virtual web server, email configuration or DNS setup.
An SSL server provides encryption for your web site. Our full SSL server service adds encryption your a site in your own domain, and requires an SSL certificate which you will need to obtain from a certificate authority. As an alternative, our Virtual SSL Server option provides you with an encrypted server that will appear under our own SSL site, https://secure.mythic-beasts.com. This uses our own SSL certificate.
