FTP-only users
It is possible to create usernames and passwords which give access to a particular part of your filespace by FTP. FTP for such users works normally, but only part of the filespace is accessible. Uses include:
- giving access to part of your web space to an external tool like Blogger, without potentially compromising access to all your files;
- setting up a separate password for FTP access, in order to avoid the possibility of your account password being intercepted;
- delegating responsibility for maintenance of part of a website to another person.
If you would like us to set up any FTP-only users for your account, please
email us at
support@mythic-beasts.com. Our
convention is to create user names of the form
login-suffix, for instance
joebloggs-blogger, though this convention can be relaxed if
necessary. Once an FTP-only user is set up, you can use the ftppasswd command
to change the FTP-only password. See the ftppasswd(1) man page for more
information.
