Outlook Express Configuration
Outlook Express versions 4 and 5 both support IMAP. Earlier versions of Outlook support only POP3. IMAP is a superior protocol, and you should use it if your mail program supports it. Here are detailed instructions for setting up Outlook Express version 5 for IMAP. The process is very similar for version 4.
1. Start Outlook Express and select Accounts from the Tools menu. Click on the Mail tab, select Add and then choose Mail.
2. Enter your name as you want it to appear in any emails that you send:
3. Next, enter the email address that you want to appear as your return address when you send emails:
4. Set the mail server type to IMAP and set the incoming mail server to mythic.mythic-beasts.com. You should use your ISP or network's outgoing SMTP server.
5. Enter your shell account username as the account name.
6. When you have finished the Internet Connection Wizard, select the account and hit Properties.
Select the Advanced tab and check the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) box.
7. If you also use mail clients on the server, such as Pine, you may want to change the Root folder path to ~/mail.
You may wish to store draft messages and sent messages on the server, rather than your computer. This is a good idea if you use more than one computer for your email and you have a fast internet connection. Otherwise, uncheck the Store special folders on IMAP server box.
Your account is now set up.
