Liverpool to Chester to Liverpool Bike ride

My plan was to go over to Liverpool on the Saturday, stay in the youth hostel. get up early on Sunday to a full cooked breakfast cycle to Chester and then get the train back to Spital. it didn't quite work out. There was not a bed to be found in Liverpool, there were no trains from Spital on sunday morning due to engineering works so I had to cycle to Birkenhead (5 miles up hill). Still I got there in time to join the start.

The first bit was through the tunnel which was fun. You zoom down hill and then slog up a long up hill. It really spread people out so from that point on I never felt like I was cycling in a pack or palletton as Chris tells me it should be called in Tour de France terminology.
About an hour later I was back cycling through Brimstage. Round the roundabout and then past Clatterbridge to the rugby club where I stopped for a banana. This family outing is how I envision the Steele family in a few years time

On to Chester where I was planning to finish. This is the official halfway stop. Although it is 28 miles out of the 53 mile total. I stopped for another banana, a stretch and a bit of a rest.

However I was getting cold. I didn't really want to hang around waiting for the bus back to Liverpool adn I reasoned that if it was going to cycle to Chester station I might as well do the last 25 miles and get back to Liverpool. Lot of hills later I arrived at the other tunnel

The last little bit through Liverpool was a breeze but that was mainly because I was feeling good to be nearly home. They left the last hill for the finish line

and finally the city of culture banner that greated me
