The west coast of scotland is warmed by the gulf stream so although there was snow on the ground and a strong wind from the sea there are still palm trees in Campbeltown.

The hotel was once the hunting lodge of the Duke of Argyll and is suitably grand. Dressing for dinner is not necessary although the cuisine is excellent.

The sofas around the log fire make the place very homely and a great place to drink and chat
